Third Thursday: Connecting Places: Ways to Know a City

View Event Details

Event finished: 17th October 2019

The talk will touch on how personal experience remains at the centre of how we understand and improve cities today. His career experience brings our attention back to the “real world” right in front of us, focusing it once more on the sights, sounds, and experiences of place in order to craft policies, plans, and regulations to shape better urban environments. He will show us how to catalog the influences and junctions of urban form, public transportation, and other basic city elements. He will then share insights into how to use recorded observations of many types to contribute to better planning and design.

His books, Urbanism Without Effort (Island Press, 2019/2013), and Seeing the Better City (Island Press 2017), are readily available in paperback and electronic form. His next book, Sustaining a City’s Culture and Character, will be published by Rowman & Littlefield in 2020.

Join us for an evening of insight and networking as well as touching on how his talk will lead into CityX event which touches on the Future of Housing and Future of Mobility in November.
