West Midlands innovators invited to join DIATOMIC India Accelerator

Specialist companies with clean energy and mobility technologies are asked to step forward for a new business support programme targeted at the Indian market.

Up to eight innovative West Midlands-based companies looking to expand their operations overseas will be invited by Connected Places Catapult to take part in a new six-month competition, which could see their technologies showcased in India.

The DIATOMIC India Accelerator programme is looking for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) developing clean technologies to address pressing climate issues to come forward. The programme is led by the Catapult in collaboration with the West Midlands Growth Company and the Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce. It is part of the wider West Midlands Innovation Accelerator programme.

Successful participants will benefit from business support and the chance to explore new collaborations with stakeholders in the burgeoning Indian market. Companies selected will also be able to apply for a share of £80,000 to carry out trials or product development.

SMEs applying to the competition must have technologies that address one of three industry challenges, covering the Future of Energy, the Future of Mobility, or Sustainable Urban Areas.

Winning companies will be invited to send one senior team member on two market visits to Delhi, the National Capital Region and Haryana in November 2024 and February 2025, with travel expenses covered including flights and accommodation.

The DIATOMIC India Accelerator programme is aimed at growing bilateral innovation collaborations, trade and investment opportunities between India and the West Midlands – two markets recognised as having strong links in the past – as well as boosting jobs and growth for the UK.

Applicants have until 24 July to apply, and the cohort selection will be made on 15 August. Details of how to apply and the full scope of the three challenges for the DIATOMIC India Accelerator, as well as the eligibility criteria, can be found here.
