Project Summary
The project aims to showcase an innovative and sustainable energy storage solution for modern mobility. With a focus on safety, affordability, and sustainability, the team will construct and evaluate a battery pack and EV skateboard utilising their proprietary technology. The battery innovations incorporated advanced cell system integration, control, and safety measures, aiming to create a streamlined and lightweight battery pack that is both low cost and secure.
Project Achievements
Our project focused on building 10kWh sodium-ion battery pack for micro electric cars. The pack is designed based on our customer requirements. • Accurate simulation models are generated and metrics validated at lab-level; • Our sodium-ion cells are successfully tested at HPPC tests and applied to real-w orld conditions (i.e. WLTP drive cycle). It’s confirmed that our cells also add system structural strength by 30% and reduce the overall cost by 25%; • As w e show ed our progress to customers, w e signed 6 more MoUs w ith automakers, totalling to 19. We received international orders from USA, EU, Saudi Arabia and India; • It’s World’s 1st Sodium-Ion battery pack using “cell-to-pack” and fire-retardant concept
Conclusions
1. We are convinced that future battery systems must be sustainable and low cost in EVs; 2. Our project confirmed that sodium-ion cells can perfectly w ork as safe, efficient and affordable energy storage solution using our proprietary technology; 3. “Cell-to-Pack” concept provides mechanical and electrical benefits on pack-level system; 4. Our team managed the project efficiently w ithout any delays. Planning w as important; 5. Customers w ere keen to see hardw are in-person w hich helped us to sign MoUs; 6. The simulation modelling predicted performance and allow ed us to optimise further; 7. We learnt to alw ays have Plan B w hen choosing suppliers; 8. Early plan and strategy are alw ays good to have clarity on the actions; 9. Risk assessment helped us to w ork out solutions accordingly;
Next Steps
1. TRIG allow ed us to move further on technical milestones of Sample B/C/D using our partner’s facilities to certify our product; • Tests are the follow ing = Environmental: w ater sealing, vibrations, thermal & Electrical: drive cycles & Mechanical: impact, strength; 2. The main goal is to commercialise our battery pack design and supply to automakers; 3. We aim to convert our non-binding Memorandums into binding contracts to supply battery packs to OEMs; 4. To do this, w e aim to fundraise and expand our team and operations w ithin the UK; 5. Our team plans to develop 2 more battery packs at different sizes: 20kWh and 50kWh, based on the requirements from our cus tomers;
