Project Summary

NEVA Group has produced an electric jet drive system aimed at achieving zero emissions in marine propulsion, significantly enhancing efficiency and reducing environmental impact. It has calculated that an eight metre leisure boat would save five tonnes of carbon emissions a year. The electric model also promises reduced noise pollution and fewer maintenance needs.

Project Achievements

We successfully developed and validated a novel electric propulsion system tailored specifically for small marine vessels. This system significantly enhances vessel efficiency, reduces noise and vibration, and dramatically cuts operational emissions compared to traditional propulsion methods. Key outcomes include achieving target performance metrics of power efficiency and thrust consistency in prototype tests. Additionally, we were able to test our new system against existing propulsion systems, establishing a baseline and clearly demonstrating the future superior performance of our novel propulsion solution. Furthermore, our design demonstrates compactness and adaptability suitable for retrofitting existing marine vessels.

Conclusions

Our innovative electric propulsion solution demonstrates clear viability and tangible performance benefits for the marine industry. This TRIG-supported project has confirmed substantial environmental advantages, economic efficiency, and ease of integration with existing maritime platforms. Feedback from initial stakeholder demonstrations underlines strong market potential, highlighting growing industry demand for sustainable marine propulsion systems. Our research underscores that scalable electric propulsion technology is not only feasible but economically and environmentally transformative.

Next Steps

We aim to advance from prototype validation to broader operational trials and commercial pilot programmes. Our next phase involves our Innovate UK grant, securing strategic industry partnerships and potential investors to expedite scaling and market entry. Further optimisation of manufacturing processes and cost reduction will enhance commercial viability. Concurrently, we will pursue additional certifications and regulatory approvals necessary for mainstream adoption, preparing the solution for widespread industry application.
