Alex is a specialist in the commercialisation of innovation with nearly 20 years of experience in complex markets, from medicine and devices to transport and cities. He is a specialist in intellectual property, commercial and public procurement strategies, and has supported hundreds of high-growth potential technology businesses with varied products and services. As Executive Director of Academic Engagement at Connected Places Catapult, Alex is responsible for supporting the Connected Places innovation supply chain, working for small businesses and researchers to maximise the development and implementation of innovations and support growth and jobs. With his team, he understands the regulatory and practical barriers to new market entrants to support hundreds of high-tech, high-growth businesses, operating at board and senior operational levels, helping them to win commercial traction, enter new markets and raise over £250m in investment, creating over 500 jobs in four years. He has also played a leading role in pioneering improvements of public sector innovation procurement and supported the creation of new investment funds.
