It is essential that asset product design prioritises safety, inclusivity and accessibility. To fully understand the impact, we must capture and assess insights from users and non-users alike.
Connected Places Catapult is proud to publish our latest report, prepared in partnership with the High Value Manufacturing Catapult’s Warwick Manufacturing Group, University College London, Steer and Cenex.
The aim of this report is to advise place and policy leaders on the implications for future-proofing regulations in micromobility, particularly those that could unlock further market potential. The project objectives included:
1. Developing a high-level understanding of the population groups, protected characteristics, and experiences (user needs) where there are opportunities and challenges that could be addressed by market intervention and develop a framework to inform anticipatory micromobility regulation.
2. Assessing emerging technologies, innovations, and design of micromobility, including the current development of inclusive e-scooters and e-mobility, accessible technologies and enabling infrastructures.
3. Report on accessibility, assessment of market opportunity, challenges, and opportunities that could be addressed by further research and development competitions and identify potential opportunities for co-funding.
"This report demonstrates the critical role of micromobility in shaping the future of integrated urban transport. By prioritising inclusivity and accessibility in design, we can ensure that these innovations benefit a wide cross section of society, reduce carbon emissions, and create sustainable economic growth. The findings also underscore the importance of forward-thinking policies and regulations that can unlock the full potential of the micromobility sector."Steve Pyer, Connected Places Catapult Director of New Mobility Technologies
