Cybersecurity and Operational Modelling in Transport
The "Cyber Security Skills in the UK Labour Market 2023" report reveals that 50% of UK businesses lack basic cybersecurity skills, and 33% lack advanced skills. This gap, combined with the rising complexity of cyber-physical systems in transport makes advanced cybersecurity measures essential.
Initiated and funded by Innovate UK and developed in collaboration with the UK’s Catapult Network, the Workforce Foresighting Hub (WF Hub) uses global data to anticipate future skill demands across three critical areas: workforce, supply chain capability and technology. This initiative helps industry leaders and educators understand the changes needed to bridge the skills gap and lead future developments.
For example, transport tunnels rely on complex operational technology (OT) systems for ventilation, fire suppression, CCTV, and power supply - integrating deeply with IT systems. This convergence heightens cybersecurity risks, from legacy vulnerabilities to evolving digital threats. By adopting digital twins and combining human and machine strengths, we can enhance security and resilience in these critical environments.
