Introduction
On 28 August 2016, Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashed Al Maktoum, the crown prince of Dubai, announced the launch of the first Urban Mobility Innovation Index (UMii).
The project, initiated and sponsored by the Roads & Transport Authority of Dubai (RTA), is being implemented by UITP in partnership with Connected Places Catapult.
The main objective of the project was to develop a playbook and recommendations that enables city stakeholders to improve innovation in the urban mobility arena across three dimensions:
- readiness of the innovation ecosystem,
- deployment of innovative solutions, and
- liveability, looking at the impact of such innovations
On Thursday 9 November 2017, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum launched the first report of the UMii that features 30 urban mobility innovation profiles of global cities:
Abu Dhabi, Abuja, Amman, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Casablanca, Chicago, Delhi, Dubai, Geneva, Helsinki, Hong Kong, Istanbul, Johannesburg, Kuala Lumpur, Lisbon, London, Los Angeles, Manchester, Mexico City, Milan, Montréal, Munich, Nairobi, New York, São Paulo, Singapore, Sydney, Vienna, Warsaw.
The UMii Report and Position Paper aims at empowering city leaders to embrace innovation in their urban strategy and to enable sustainable, resilient and inclusive mobility solutions.
