Applications close 25 April 2025
The Department for Transport (DfT) and Connected Places Catapult are inviting expressions of interest for the brand new Transport Research and Innovation Grants (TRIG) Advisory Board. The Advisory Board will play a crucial role in shaping the future of the TRIG programme, by providing strategic guidance, sector insights and industry expertise.
We are currently seeking up to 20 experienced professionals from across industry, academia, government, investment, and other organisations (NGOs, charities, DPOs etc.) who can provide thought leadership and contribute to the ongoing success of TRIG. One of the Advisory Board places will be assigned to one of the TRIG Alumni, and so we would be keen to hear from our Alumni as well.
The TRIG programme is the DfT’s flagship cross-modal, proof-of-concept innovation grant funding competition. It aims to drive scientific and technological progress in the UK transport sector by funding proof-of-concept projects with up to £45k grants. It seeks to empower SMEs, start-ups and universities to experiment with innovative solutions that address pressing challenges, while fostering stronger collaboration between academia, industry, and government. The programme’s objectives are to provide a platform for innovative ideas, support experimentation with the “fail fast and learn” approach and enhance market alignment by addressing both industry needs and government priorities. The programme is delivered in collaboration with Connected Places Catapult and has been running since 2014, supporting 434 projects with over £15.6 million in grant funding.
The TRIG Advisory Board will serve as a strategic body to:
