This week a group of companies based in the West Midlands are visiting Pune and Delhi in India as part of a programme designed to promote innovation from the region and generate sustainable commercial opportunities. A key aim of this work is to grow bilateral innovation collaborations, trade and investment opportunities between India and the West Midlands – two markets recognised as having strong historic links.
This first visit is focussed on immersing the businesses on the accelerator in the market, establishing connections and refining their focus for prospective customers, partners and collaborators. During the week the businesses are attending site visits to Tata Motors, Tata Power and the Automotive Research Association of India, as well as discussions at IIT-Delhi.
Participants will engage with organisations including the British Trade Office Pune, the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India, the Mahratta Chamber of Commerce, and the Auto Cluster Development and Research Institute. The businesses will also attend the UK-India Technology Futures Conference, where they will hear from keynote speakers, participate in roundtables, and join networking sessions.
The firms joining the DIATOMIC India Accelerator are:
ChangeMaker 3D
DOCK-Y
EVIE Autonomous
Faraday Battery

Alongside two visits to India, companies on the Accelerator are benefitting from bespoke business support and the opportunity to access funding to carry out technology trials.
The DIATOMIC India programme is led by the Catapult in collaboration with the West Midlands Growth Company and the Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce. It is part of the wider West Midlands Innovation Accelerator programme.
Led by Innovate UK on behalf of UK Research and Innovation, the pilot Innovation Accelerators programme invested £100m in 26 transformative R&D projects to accelerate the growth of three high-potential innovation clusters – Glasgow City Region, Greater Manchester and West Midlands. This is a new model of R&D decision making that empowers local leaders to harness innovation to drive regional economic growth, help attract private investment, and develop future technologies.
