Projects, Opportunities & Case Studies

A sunlit, multi-lane highway with zero-emission road freight trucks and cars traveling in both directions, surrounded by green trees and fields under a setting sun.
Programme
Zero-Emission Road Freight
Connected Places Catapult is helping to accelerate the transition to zero-emission road freight.
Wind turbine blades are stored on metal racks in an open area under a clear blue sky, with wind turbines visible in the background.
Opportunity
Hydrogen Innovation Initiative Demonstration 23-24
Companies can apply for up to £50k to trial technology related to the production, conversion, distribution or end use of hydrogen
A modern, illuminated arch structure with streetlights glows under the nighttime sky. Buildings stand tall in the background while people and vehicles, including micro-mobility options, navigate near the structure.

Project
UK – India Innovation for Net Zero: Exploring place-based bilateral partnerships
International collaboration can boost the power of places to deliver on net zero goals. A new partnership between the UK and India which involves Connected Places Catapult is hoping to achieve just that.
Case Study
ASEAN Smart Cities Spark an Electric Bus Revolution
Electrifying public bus fleets is a net zero action that many cities have in their power to take now – but the instability of the grid in these districts can cause delays in implementing chargers. To address this in Jakarta and Singapore, innovation districts involving local residents and businesses grew from what was, at first, a single-depot public sector project.

Programme
Preparing UK airports for zero emission aircraft
The UK Government is investing in the infrastructure upgrades required at UK airports to move to battery and hydrogen-powered aircraft. As part of this we are delivering the Zero Emission Flight Infrastructure (ZEFI) programme in collaboration with the Department for Transport.
An industrial plant at night with lights illuminating the structures and smoke or steam rising from various parts of the facility, highlighting the importance of embodied emissions accounting in their Scope 3 programme.
Project
Carbon Accounting
Representatives from the Catapult Network are working with Government, academia and standards bodies to develop a robust, comprehensive framework to accurately measure greenhouse gas emissions of UK manufactured products, that will accelerate industrial emission reduction and position the UK as the place for green manufacturing.
A view of Port of Tyne with several cranes, cargo ships, and industrial structures along the water, set under a cloudy sky, highlights the potential for green shipping innovations.
Project
Clean Tyne Shipping Corridor
The project will develop a roadmap for a green shipping corridor from the North East to support the maritime sector’s transition to net zero.
