DATE : 29 July 2020
LOCATION : Webinar
START TIME : 2:00 pm END TIME : 3:00 pm

In this webinar we look at a couple of the Catapult’s Researcher in Residence (RiR) Projects plus some insights and new start-ups that have been monitoring, evaluating and looking for innovative ways of tackling air quality across the globe.

Speakers

  • Dr Fabio Galatioto, Senior Transport and Environmental specialist, Connected Places Catapult
  • Eloise Marais, Associate Professor in Physical Geography, UCL
  • Bob Burgoyne, Market Intelligence Team Lead, Connected Places Catapult
  • Zaili Yang, Professor, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Liverpool John Moores University

Agenda

14:00 – 14.40 Presentations and discussion from speakers

  • Fabio Galatioto – will set the scene with an overview of the clean mobility topic, describing the different components that are part of the ecosystem leading to cleaner and healthier urban environments in our society, touching on some pros and cons of existing and future clean air policies. Fabio is expert in Transport and Environmental modelling and monitoring and he has been involved in the RiR programme supporting Prof Zaili project over last 2 years.
  • Eloise Marais – is an Associate Professor in Physical Geography at UCL. She has a PhD from Harvard University that was funded by the International Fulbright Scholarship programme. She has also recently been awarded an ERC Starting Grant. Her research group works on understanding the influence of human activity on air quality, health and climate on local, regional, and global scales. Eloise will be talking about TRACE – the Tool for Recording and Assessing the City Environment – that she is developing using satellite observations of atmospheric composition as a Researcher in Residence at Satellite Applications and Connected Places Catapults.
  • Bob Burgoyne – talks about some of the exciting companies that are involved in the Innovating for Clean Air India Programme where Energy Systems Catapult, Connected Places Catapult and Satellite Applications Catapult are harnessing the private sector and academic expertise from India and the UK to support the development of EV integration and clean air innovations.
  • Zaili Yang – is a Professor at Liverpool John Moores University within the Faculty of Engineering and Technology. Zaili’s Researcher in Residence project at the Connected Places Catapult aims to develop and support a testing and scoring mechanism, to assess and publish a green vehicle index to help to shape consumer behaviour when purchasing vehicles. This index encompasses all of the relevant criteria affecting consumer choice, for example CO2 and polluting emission, energy efficiency, performance, cost, with the aim to create competition on who brings to market the cleanest vehicles.
