Join this week’s Gemini Call with Sam Rogers and Holger Kessler from AtkinsRéalis for a timely discussion on the progress being made in subsurface data sharing and the barriers that still stand in the way. From asset locations and construction as-builts to ground investigation data and ground models, subsurface information is critical to better planning, safer delivery and more informed decisions across infrastructure and the built environment.
In this session, Sam and Holger will explore why sharing ground data matters, how attitudes across the industry are beginning to change, and what progress has been made so far through initiatives such as NUAR, BGS Dig2Share, AGS data transfer formats and the Construction Playbook. They will also address the remaining challenges, including commercial and contractual issues, sensitivity concerns, legacy data and the need for clients to better recognise the value of sharing subsurface information.
Why attend?
Poor access to subsurface data can lead to inefficiencies, duplication, avoidable risk and missed opportunities for collaboration. This session will give attendees a clearer view of why ground data sharing matters now, what is changing, and where support is still needed to move the sector forward.
What you'll learn:
- Why sharing subsurface and geotechnical data is so important
- What progress has already been made through key programmes and standards
- How industry attitudes are shifting around data sharing
- What barriers still remain, from legacy data to commercial and contractual concerns
- How different stakeholders can help unlock further progress across the sector
Who should attend?
This session is ideal for infrastructure professionals, geotechnical and engineering specialists, digital twin practitioners, asset owners, policymakers, data leaders and anyone interested in improving how subsurface information is shared and used.
About the speaker
Sam Rogers and Holger Kessler are from AtkinsRéalis and bring practical insight into subsurface data sharing, geotechnical data standards and the wider industry effort to improve collaboration and data use across projects and organisations.
