Project Summary

You.Smart.Thing trialled the AI Travel Marketplace, a travel‑planning tool providing personalised multimodal journey options that combine DRT, public transport, taxis and active travel. AITM was integrated into NHS appointment systems and cultural venue ticketing journeys to encourage lower‑carbon travel. The trial assessed whether providing curated options at the point of need could reduce single‑occupancy car use, support missed‑appointment reduction and increase travel confidence in rural areas.

Project Achievements

You.Smart.Thing secured £1.2m in new investment. It processed nearly 11,000 travel queries and generated significant behaviour change: 22% of surveyed users modified their travel based on AITM recommendations. DRT usage grew from 500 to 3,000 monthly users, and social value totalled £4.86 per £1 invested.

Conclusions

The trial confirmed that AI Travel Marketplace can improve access to healthcare and cultural services by presenting integrated, bookable travel options at the point of need. Deployment across NHS and cultural settings showed strong user uptake and measurable behaviour change, with users discovering new transport options and shifting away from single‑occupancy car travel. The project also demonstrated commercial viability and generated significant social value.

Next Steps

You.Smart.Thing will expand AITM across additional hospitals and deepen integrations with demand‑responsive transport and taxi providers. The company is progressing commercial discussions with NHS trusts and local authorities and will continue refining the platform based on user data. Further rollout will focus on procurement through public sector frameworks and expansion to other rural regions.
