
Robert Singleton (MRTPI, MCIHT) is a chartered spatial planner with over 18 years in the profession.
He has a wide range of experience in the public sector including leading an innovative sustainable
design and construction team, acting as planning lead for major regeneration projects and
Development Consent Orders, and more recently heading up the National Infrastructure Team at the
then DLUHC. Following a move to the DfT in 2019, Robert has established a centre of excellence for
engaging with the transport and spatial planning systems for the Department capable of providing
expert and specialist input to the full range of modal policy areas. The key driver of the Planning
Policy Team at DfT is to foster a step change in the Departments approach to planning and better
align the spatial and transport planning systems to drive truly sustainable patterns of development
served by the right infrastructure, delivered in the right place and at the right time
