Based on the successful City Standards toolkits development and engagement on Smart City standards globally, our Global City Standards programme offers local government bodies and private sector actors around the world the opportunity to apply our expertise in state-of-the-art standardisation and accreditation to their local climate.

What do we offer?

Our Global City Standards Programme offer includes:

  • A user centric approach with researched user needs
  • Identified future trends in topic area
  • Mapped standards landscape and their adoption
  • Recommended standards required to support an excellent user experience
  • Road to accreditation: mapping the steps to be undertaken for smart city standards accreditation.

Case study: Electric Vehicle Standardisation

The Catapult’s report “Electric Vehicles, Innovation towards an excellent user experience”, published in collaboration with the Digital Catapult and Innovate UK, provides insights and recommendations into aspects such as user experience, data and standards.

The report highlights how a lack of co-ordinated and standardised EV data is inhibiting the delivery of excellent user experiences, delivery of public and private charging infrastructure and demand forecasting for the power grid. The report suggests that the Internet of Things, Vehicle to Infrastructure communications, Blockchain, Artificial Intelligence and Immersive technologies such as Augmented reality could all have a part to play in closing this gap.

The Global City Standards programme consists of three components:

1.            Introducing Smart City standards components based on international standards and the Catapult’s leadership in the City Standards Network which helps advise cities, government, industry and standards bodies on the use and development of city standards;

2.         Deep-diving into the customised client-specific needs including a user centric approach, researched user needs, identified future trends in Smart City components, mapped standards landscape and their adoption and recommended standards required to support an excellent user experience.

3.            Road to accreditation: mapping the steps to be undertaken for smart city standards accreditation.
