FINAL CALL: Submissions must be completed by 24th October 2021
Connected Places Catapult is providing funding and expertise to find and test innovative solutions to local challenges around healthy ageing – creating the environment to demonstrate impact and to build the needed case for scaling.
We are selecting innovative UK SMEs who have the potential to create solutions (technical and non-technical) that can address our challenges through deploying or developing their solutions within our UK based Testbeds.
What is a testbed?
Testbeds give SMEs and innovators access to user groups and local environments to develop, test and showcase new or existing products.
Testbeds play a vital role in helping assess the viability, impact and potential for scale of new innovations whilst limiting the risks associated with such activities.
The Opportunity for SMEs
We have secured two location partners for the initial programme: Sunderland City Council and a Northern Ireland consortium. A testbed will be established in each location that will address challenges around the following:
- Decent Homes – Cold and Damp Housing Conditions (Sunderland City Council)
- Social Isolation and Loneliness (Northern Ireland Consortium)
Each challenge will be split into two tiers which will be based on the intention of each SME and their motivation for applying to the programme. The two tiers will focus on:
- Tier 1: Development – This is for SMEs that are willing to learn, test and iterate their solution based on insights collected from the deployment period and from co-creation activities with participants
- Tier 2: Demo/Showcase – This provides SMEs with more mature solutions the opportunity to meet and engage with end-users and potential partners in order to demo and showcase their solution and gain visibility.
