Third Thursday: How can understanding the past help inform the transition to net-zero?

DATE : 25 February 2021
LOCATION : Online Event
START TIME : 4:00 pm END TIME : 5:15 pm

The transition to net-zero will undoubtedly involve massive technological change, but tightly wrapped up in the process are myriad social, behavioural, cultural, and economic changes.

It is easy to get caught-up in the drive for change, but how do we take a step back and look at the transition in the context of our history and the kind of future we seek? In many ways, we’ve been here before. What can we learn from past experience to help ensure the transition to net-zero is one which foregrounds social justice and promotes individual and societal wellbeing? How can we use this knowledge to our advantage?

In this session, we will hear from panellists with an interest in the transition to net-zero:

  • Max Wide, Associate, Connected Places Catapult
  • Victoria Lawson, Executive Director of Environment, Culture and Customer Services, London Borough of Hounslow
  • Dr Carlos Lopez-Galviz, Senior Lecturer in The Theory and Methods of Social Futures, Associate Director, Lancaster University – He will talk about how understanding past transitions can better enable us to shape coming transitions in a way that maximises societal benefit.
  • and more to be announced
